Top Shot - Season 3

What I would really like to know is , if they have a job , how do they get that much time off to be on TV ?

Yep, I love sitting in the Lazy-Boy saying "I could make that shot...". Wife just rolled her eyes. I stopped saying it when they brought out the stage coach and the Winchester.

Yeah, I think I remember someone on the show saying it took 37 days to film it.

37 days isn't that long, and a lot of people have sufficient vacation time or leeway to take off that much time, particularly when a special opportunity like this presents itself. Hell if I needed to right now I've got almost 13 weeks of vacation time saved up at work.

Yeah, a lot of those I don't understand. Top marksmen in the country taking multiple shots to hit a 10-12" target at 75 yards through a scoped rifle? I guess it's all in the pressure of the moment and being on TV. That stage coach challenge was hard though.

I just hope they mostly stick to things that aren't TOO off the wall though. Already seen that "corner shot" gimmicky gun in previews for upcoming episodes which I don't like, but when they start doing sling-shots, blow guns, and mortar cannons I kinda lose interest. Inside the realm of "regular" guns though, I like to watch just about everything. Even archery is ok.

The first challenge to choose teams was very impressive. Some of those guys handled that 500 like it was a 9mm. I was very impressed at how fast some of them followed up shots.

I think this season will be the best yet. The blue team looks stacked but you never know. We shall see.

If you think about it, "stacking" the blue team simply means the other team goes through the eliminations early and cuts the deadwood in the first few weeks. That makes them the much tougher team later in the competition.

An observation on the Barrett even though it's banned in CA could the weapon not have been in state before the ban? That would make it legal wouldn't it? Or would they have to be turned in,removed from the state?

TV shows often get exemptions. Nature of the industry. I was also under the impression it was actually filmed in AZ.

Anyone can make mental mistakes on the range... even one the blue team guys forgot a magazine and threw a bullet in the dirt 6 feet low and left--obviously a flinch.

That stagecoach challenge looked like it was straight from Mail Call where R Lee Ermy demonstrated why a shotgun was better than a rifle from a moving stagecoach.

It's interesting to see the challenges. I figured if I were doing the stagecoach I would just forget about trying to hit the targets as they approached and set myself up to hit them after they passed.

I was also impressed with the handling of the .500.

I applaud their efforts to tell the audience about the various firearms. That's really good stuff.

Worst case scenario will get people thinking of shooters as drama queens rather than psychos, which is a step in the right direction ;-)

They get paid a weekly salary every week they are there, FYI.

I like that the competition takes some physical fitness, but S3 premiere makes me cringe at what they have in store this year, seems less about shooting and more about mock ups.

Also, anyone understand why they pitted the losers against the winners when dividing into teams?

There were some impressive handling of the 500. I'm not sure if I could follow up that quickly.

The AK challenge looks interesting and I liked the log challenge last night.

It all looks like so much fun.

"IIRC, the Barrett M82 .50 rifle is illegal in CA." - As with most bans I'm sure it only applies to the 'unwashed masses'. With proper law enforcement supervision I'm sure they can get whatever they want to shoot. (shoot, not own!)
Last I knew Barret REFUSED to sell to California LEO's.....

Nope, it's filmed on a couple of movie ranches outside of Santa Clarita, California. The used a different ranch for Season One than they have for Seasons Two and Three. Hard to pin down exactly where, but the aerial view of this house looks miiiiiighty familiar, and the location services outfit that owns the ranch lists Pilgrim Films (the production company that films Top Shot for History Channel) as one of their clients.

2+2 = 4, I'd say...

looks to be better this season than last. where do they find all these "homeland security agents"??? to the best of my knowledge, there is no bureau of homeland security agent program. unless these guys are attached to agencies within DHS and choose not to broadcast the particulars. maybe they're air marshalls.

I was thinking that they were either FAMs or BPAs. Air Marshalls famously put a high emphasis on pistol training and accuracy and Boder Patrol have excellent pistol training and a long tradition of competition. Their pistol team wins matches all the time.

That really isn't a bad price.

It is closer to Palmdale than I thought...I thought it was closer to Santa Clarita. It is smaller than I thought, from watching the show, and having only three bathrooms just doesn't seem like enough

Once again the good looking lady doesn't last long. Dang!
Too early to pick who my favorite is as of now.
I know I don't like the red headed guy or the Bible thumper. They're both annoying. I think the two guys who are friends and co-workers from Homeland Security may be pretty cool. It seems to be a good friendly rivalry between the two that could be fun.
Also, I think watching that elimination challenge, we know why stage guards carried shotguns instead of rifles most of the time. I'm not sure I could have hit any targets from the moving stage. Would be a blast to try though.

Neither of them are super models, but I personally think the one that stayed looks better. The one that got eliminated was just a little too thin for my tastes.

Now from last season, yeah I didn't want to see Athena go . That said, Maggie didn't look to bad either. The season 3 ladies just don't stack up to them in looks, nor (from what I've seen) in shooting.

That's how I like em. :)
Maggie has em both beat though. And you're right. Maggie seems to be a MUCH better shot than either of the two this season. It's like they let them in just because they were ladies. If only we could get Stephanie Hayden from "Sons of Guns" on there.....

That would be pretty funny if they could get her on there! I'd love to see how she did.

The female Police officer from the first season was really good too, she was definitely one of the better shooters there. I remember she had to go home because of her dad's health.

Seriously??? That would ensure I shoot my TV...
IMO she is not very attractive and annoying to boot.
