Top Shot - Season 3

Any chance the rifles were deliberately sighted in such that they had to see impact and do a little Kentucky windage (especially on the last couple of stations)? That's the only thing I can come up with for why even marginally competent shooters would be repeatedly missing these large targets less than 100 yards out.

Remember, they are being timed\racing against the other team and on TV, competent or not, once nerves get to you, that's it.

Just remember folks that its TELEVISION. A reality show about guns is still just an entertainment. It's not real it's entertainment. The contestants are selected for their appeal not their skill.

Sorry but I gotta disagree.

Those shooters are skilled, however, as in ALL competitions, the people who can get it right the FIRST time out of the gate are the best over the long haul.

Keep in mind, these guys have to perform on demand, no dry runs, no practice runs, nothing, just show up, listen to the instructions, and SHOOT.

I dont think the competitors even see the "pros" running the events like we see during the show.

Its anybodies guess WHO zero'ed the guns and the competitors must shoot using someone else's zero, they dont get to check the zero, or make sight adjustments, just pick it up and shoot, then if you miss, use kentucky windage to adjust.

Nope. Season One contestant Brad Engmann beat Angus Hobdell and a host of other GM's to win Production last year at the Area 2 Championship, and Blake Miguez is in Greece preparing for World Shoot as I type this. Maggie Reese is one of the best woman 3 Gun shooters in the world, and i saw Season 1 winner Iain Harrison smoke through a stage at the Superstition Mountain 3 Gun match last year, beating a whole bunch of top-rated shooters on that stage.

There are some deadbeats on Top Shot, to be sure, but to quote Frank Sinatra, if you can make it there, you can make it anywhere. ;)

On top of the shooters missing a target at 100 yards, why, when they were missing, were their partners not using the spotters scope to actually, gasp, spot them and offer correction advice? that one guy on the blue team, last station, last target, was doing some sort of chicken dance as his partner was missing. I'm yelling at the dude to get on the scope and help out!

I think I get a little too involved in the competition myself.
According to the guy "doing the chicken dance", they had come to the conclusion that the gusting wind blowing on the competitors was having a negative effect on maintaining a steady hold while going for the shot. So he was attempting to help block the effects of the gusts by standing there. He was holding his shirt up because he had previously taken a .308 shell down the shirt and was trying to avoid another.

I don't think they didn't get training time like we are used to. If you listened to the chick who went home, she mentioned that she did well at all 3 practices. Hummm, didn't get to see those. Could have been due to time limitations with 3 competitions in this episode.

Robert
I was told that Each episode basically took 3 days: One day of practice, one day of competition and one day for the elimination. So they do get a full day of practice for each episode.

"IIRC, the Barrett M82 .50 rifle is illegal in CA." - As with most bans I'm sure it only applies to the 'unwashed masses'. With proper law enforcement supervision I'm sure they can get whatever they want to shoot. (shoot, not own!)

Barrett suspended sales and service of the M82 to law enforcement in the state in answer to the .50BMG ban California put into place for civilian sales. He also offers the same rifle, chambered in .416Barrett instead of .50BMG to get around the .50 Caliber ban California has.

See now that makes sense.

I was watching American Ninja Warrior on G4 the other day, and they have picked up the same competition format...without the drama as far as I can see. I've been a huge fan of Ninja Warrior for years. American Ninja Warrior chooses American contestants to compete in the real event in Japan. The American show has been on since before Top Shot, but I am not sure if they picked up this format first or just followed Top Shot

I'm liking this season. More shooting, less Survivor Soap Opera. They still have some petty bickering and sniping but usually show it backfiring; pre-shoot brags by the loser for example.

The team challenges sure are athletic. I think I could make the shot but only if I could get there. These old bones would not do too well climbing a footlog or crawling through an obstacle course.

I don't know what they are looking at through spotting scopes.
With freestanding reactive targets and no consistent background like a bullseye target backer or the dusty berm behind a metallic silhouette, there seems little to spot. I don't know if you can see the bullet glint or trace at those short ranges under those conditions.

The High-speed camera sees it all !!!!!!!

I didn't really want to see either contestants in the elimination challenge go home. I was really suprised that the "100% self taught" guy beat the cop.

The Red head needs to go.

It seems that there is so much editing this season that its hard to track the good shooters in the comps..

Wow, I thought George was a jerk last season. This new guy, Jake I believe, is much worse IMO. Man, I hate that guy. Though I will say, his dive into the ditch and coming up at the end of it was pretty cool. That other guy is lucky he had such a head start or it wouldn't have even been close.

Didn't really surprise me-last season, during the introductions, when the 'country boy' (don't remember his name) was introduced, I knew he was going to be a contenda! Most of my interest last season was to see how he stacked up against those with a long resume.
Ain't knocking training or some 'professionals', but don't sell folks who grew up around firearms/hunting or a self-taught person that becomes a student of the game short.

And please have the good sense not to tell anyone I watch... :D

BTW, the next person I'd like to see voted off would be the host. :banghead:

agree with the host needing to go! hes so annoying

and im glad that chic went home....it is a terrifying thought that she is a police officer and SWAT officer and allowed to carry a gun....probably the worst shooter ive ever seen on any televised shooting show/competition

she was horrible

and i hope the red head goes home soon....what a prick, Jake too

Well, don't tell me they aren't trying to set up the narrative and the outcome!

The cute cop-chick gets to shoot her elimination challenge with her duty firearm, the very one she's a "certified trainer" on? Still, it backfired on the producers since she still lost miserably.

It shows that performing well under pressure can trump training.

I don't like Dustin...already seems like a self righteous hypocrite to me.

Using bible versus as a taunt after then win....:scrutiny:
